And this is only on South First Street between 8:30 and 8:40. I know South Congress Avenue is similar, perhaps even more disgustingly congested, and I-35 and Mopac, well if you live in Austin you already know, are bursting at the seams. Even more disheartening is the number of vehicles I notice that contain only one person: the solitary and often exasperated-looking driver, who tries to desperately maneuver their way through traffic to work. I, meanwhile, get on the bus, deposit my $.25, and take a seat for a short twenty minute ride to the Omni Hotel on 7th Street. I often will read my book, listen to my iPod, or contentedly just gaze out the window or observe the behaviors of the other passengers. The ride is painless. Just another part of the day. My experience with the ease of public transportation has me baffled as to why the roads remain so crammed with cars. Public transportation is cheaper than filling your gas tank, quicker than driving around in search of a parking spot, less stressful than trying to steer through the congestion and other incompetent drivers and better for the environment than adding yet another carbon dioxide spitting machine to the roads. Seriously. Consider it.http://www.capmetro.org/
