It is 'Ness'icary to hear Larissa Ness.

Local singer and songwriter from Austin, Larissa Ness, is worth checking out and relatively easy to do: she plays frequently around Austin and for free. Her soothing voice will be familiar to Norah Jones, Vanessa Carlton, and Tori Amos fans. Her solo performances, with her perched behind her piano and a single microphone, are stripped, simple and real. Yes, real. It is a true acoustic experience, something that is hard to come across in this day and age and I am glad there are artists out there who are still performing this way. I admire her for continuing to play unplugged and bare for anyone who will listen.
To me,

these are real artists,
real musicians.

The flowing jazz and classical smoothness of the piano is uninhibited, except maybe by the gentle breeze that blows across the deck of the outdoor venue. The emotion in her performance is profound. You can hear it in her intimacy of her lyrics, in the rise and fall of her gentle, crooning voice. You can see it in the cringing of her face, in the sway of her body as she pounds the keys or barely touches them. You can feel it, actually feel it too, because she is not fifty feet away on a gigantic stage, strapped to wires and mics...she is right there, feet from you, playing. Inadvertently, you find yourself swaying and moving too, or at least I did. She sings about love and life and reality, things easily relateable to...not drugs and violence and money and the taste of 'cherry chapstick' on another woman. This is art at its finest and I thank Austin for continuing to nurture and promote musicians like Ness.
