Hyde Park Bar & Grill. Eh?

I would not consider myself a picky diner in any way. I have worked as a bus-girl and waitress in a multitude of restaurants since I was 15-years-old, which contributes to my confidence in my ability to judge a restaurant. I recently dined at Hyde Park Bar & Grill (the South location off of West Gate Blvd.) and I was not particularly impressed. Don't misunderstand me though: my food was tasty but I have a feeling that botching a turkey burger is something that takes a little bit of effort. I had also reluctantly ordered the basil pesto to go along with my burger, at a cost of an additional $.95. I would have loaded more onto the burger, since it was served both without cheese or a flare of garnish besides the usual tomato, lettuce and onion, but my wallet found it hard to at .$95 for all the add-on's. I enjoyed the crunchy, buttermilk battered french fries as well, which I picked at from my friend's plate, but believe it is a stretch to call them "famous" and I did not wish I had my own order (although, I do wish that the sandwiches and burgers were offered with them, for no additional cost anyway.) For a simple, safe burger or sandwich, this restaurant delivers. But then again, how could they not? I am uncertain, however, if it can compete with other restaurants in terms of entree and service quality. The entrees did not appear exceedingly alluring as they passed by my table and I can say, quite assuredly, that the service was extremely under-par. Our waitress was frantic and miserable, stopping by our table only out of necessity and never offering even a glimpse of her personality, that is, if she had one. With the daunting assortment of restaurants that Austin has to offer, I think a better choice could be made - for a more diverse, inspiring menu, a more apt wait staff, and a more distinct "Austin" dining experience. If you just want a quick, consistent burger and fries though, be my guest at Hyde Park Bar & Grill.
